Don Bosco Supports the St. Francis School – WASH Project

The planned St. Francis School – WASH Project in Kunkujang Mariama is receiving support from Don Bosco and the responsible Salesian structures.

Following the joint preparation of the project, the application was forwarded through the project office of the Salesians of the AON Province in Benin and received a positive assessment. Don Bosco in Germany subsequently confirmed its financial participation in the project.

The cooperation brings together several levels: Helping Hands Academy e.V., Don Bosco in Germany, the responsible Salesian project office in Benin, and the Salesians working locally in The Gambia.

Better Sanitation for School and Everyday Life

The aim of the project is to sustainably improve the sanitary conditions at St. Francis Lower Basic School.

At present, only four toilets are available for 571 pupils and 22 teachers. The project plans separate new sanitation facilities for girls and boys, additional facilities for teachers, an accessible toilet, handwashing facilities and a sustainable solution for wastewater treatment.

The funding commitment from Don Bosco is an important building block for the further implementation of the project.

For Helping Hands Academy, this cooperation also demonstrates how international partnerships, local structures and concrete project planning can work together.

A clearly identified need can become a concrete and lasting improvement when partners work together.

We look forward to continuing to move the project forward together.
